2,165 ideas to spur innovation: winners of 1,000 Pitches competition to be announced

EVENT: An awards ceremony to announce the winners of 1,000 Pitches, a student-run entrepreneurship competition that generated 2,165 ideas for new businesses, products or ventures.

Students competed in nine categories: environment, global business, green campus, health, high-tech, best iPhone app, local business, Michigan matters or social entrepreneurship. It is believed to be the largest pitch competition in the world.

The contest is organized by the student organization MPowered Entrepreneurship. Members of the group chose the top 10 pitches in each category and an expert judge from the business or university community chose the winners. Each winner receives $1,000 in prize money. This is the second year of the contest, which took place Sept. 18-Nov. 20.

PLACE: Blau Auditorium, University of Michigan Ross School of Business, 701 Tappan St., Ann Arbor.
