ANN ARBOR—Sean J. Morrison, director of the University of Michigan’s Center for Stem Cell Biology, is available for comment and reaction to the expected U.S. Senate vote Tuesday (July 18) on the three-bill package of stem cell legislation.

Morrison is a board member of the International Society for Stem Cell Research and a Howard Hughes Medical Institute investigator who frequently visits Capitol Hill to testify and meet with legislators one-on-one and is an articulate spokesman for the stem cell research community.

His research has focused on adult tissue and cancer-causing stem cells to date, but as the head of a new center for stem cell research, he says he would like to see American scientists be able to pursue all avenues of this promising research aggressively.

Morrison, 37, received a Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers from the White House, received the Rave Award from Wired magazine and has been named to Technology Review magazine’s list of 100 young innovators.

He has a Bachelor of Science degree in biology and chemistry from Dalhousie University, Nova Scotia, and a doctorate in immunology from Stanford University.
