N.Y. Times reporter Uchitelle to give lecture on consequences of layoffs

EVENT: Lou Uchitelle, an award-winning economics writer at the New York Times, will discuss his book, ” The Disposable American: Layoffs and their Consequences. ” The book discusses the questionable necessity of layoffs, their overuse and their devastating impact on individuals at all income levels.

Uchitelle, who joined the Times in 1980, has been writing about business, labor and economics since 1987. He was the lead reporter for the Times series ” The Downsizing of America,” which won a George Polk Award in 1996.

The lecture is free and open to the public.
