ANN ARBOR—Peter Mertz will speak on “Global Investing in Sustainable Forestry” at a brown bag session open to the public on Monday (Oct. 15) 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Room E1540 at the University of Michigan Business School. His talk will provide some background on TIMOs (Timber Investment Management Organizations), put forestry investing by institutional clients in context, and review the benefits of forestry investing from a financial perspective.

Mertz is the global head of UBS Timber Investors, a division of Brinson Partners (New York) Inc., which manages $1.5 billion of assets and commitments on behalf of over 80 institutional and private clients. He oversees the development and implementation of investment strategies, the evaluation of timber acquisition opportunities, and the day-to-day management of the firm. Mertz earned a bachelor’s degree in forestry and a master’s of business administration at the U-M.

The event is sponsored by the Corporate Environmental Management Program (CEMP), a joint degree program between the Business School and the School of Natural Resources and Environment. CEMP students earn a master’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in science, and become well versed in both management methods and environmental science.
