Renowned linguist Chomsky to lecture about language use and design

EVENT: Noam Chomsky, professor emeritus at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, will lecture at the 2013 Linguistics Institute, a national event that brings hundreds of linguistics scholars together each year for in-depth study.

His lecture is titled “Language Use and Design: conflicts and their significance.”

The Linguistics Institute courses, many of which are free and open to the public, will feature some of the world’s most preeminent linguists. Course topics will span the entire field of linguistics and showcase the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts and the University of Michigan as a global leader in linguistic research and education.

This year’s institute, themed “Universality and Variability,” began on June 24, and will run through July 19. The Chomsky lecture is free and open to the public.
