World-renowned astrophysicist to speak at U-M

EVENT: Margaret Geller, senior scientist at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, will give the eighth annual 2008 Ford Motor Company Distinguished Lecture in Physics, “Newton Meets Einstein: Mapping Dark Matter in the Universe.”
She is best known for her pioneering maps of the nearby universe, which provide a new view of the enormous web-like patterns delineated by galaxies like the Milky Way. Geller also has made fundamental contributions to the understanding of systems of galaxies and to the links between star formation and the distribution of galaxies.
PLACE: Askwith Auditorium (Room 140, Lorch Hall), 611 Tappan; a reception will precede the lecture in the Lorch Hall Atrium outside of Askwith Auditorium at 3:30 p.m.
