13th Annual Minority Health Conference
ANN ARBOR—The University of Michigan School of Public Health will hold the 13th Annual Minority Health Conference on March 19-20 at Pierpont Commons on North Campus. Sponsored by the Public Health Students of African Descent and La Salud Public Health Student Organization, the conference is open to students, faculty, health professionals, community organizations and community members interested in learning more about health issues affecting communities of color. Racial disparities of the health status of people of these communities include higher incidences of asthma, diabetes, HIV/AIDS and high blood pressure.
A partial schedule for the conference, which is titled, “Facing the Public Health Challenges of Tomorrow: Fresh Perspectives for a New Millennium,” is as follows:

–Keynote address by Dr. Robert Johnson, formerly of the Detroit Medical Center.
10 a.m., March 20:
–Keynote address by Dr. Pedro Jose Greer, dean of Homeless Education, University of Miami.
12:15 p.m., March 20:
–“HIV and Substance Abuse,” Robert Fullilove, assistant dean for community services, Columbia University School of Public Health.
–“Health Behavior,” Thomas LaVeist, professor, Johns Hopkins University.
2:15 p.m., March 20:
–Health Care Financing and Administration,” Cassandra Willis-Abner, coordinator, Clinical Delivery System Finance, University of Michigan.
3:34 p.m., March 20:
–Panel discussion on environmental health.
–“International Health,” Ted Chen, professor, Tulane University.
7 p.m., March 20:
–Keynote address, Dr. Kenneth Olden, director, National Institute of Environmental Health and Toxicology Program.
