ANN ARBOR—The University of Michigan’s Third Annual Fun Run with President Lee C. Bollinger will be held at 8 a.m. Sept. 10 at the Washington Heights entrance to Nichols Arboretum. Walkers and runners can register for the 5-kilometer event at the Burnham House near the Arboretum entrance beginning at 7 a.m. that day.
“The walk/run is an opportunity to enjoy some exercise, University collegiality and the aesthetic beauty of one of the University’s most striking natural resources,” says Jim Kosteva, director of community relations and chair of the fun run planning committee. Runners and walkers of all skill levels are encouraged to participate.
The committee anticipates about 350 students, faculty and staff members will take part. (Fall classes for most U-M students begin September 8.) Noting that the marked course doesn’t take full advantage of the Arboretum’s most dramatic topographical changes, Kosteva says runners and walkers can anticipate some modest hills and uneven footing along the natural course.
Water, juice and bagels will be available after the run. Many early registrants also will receive T-shirts with a special logo commemorating the event.
Approximately 200 participated in the first Fun Run with the president, which was held on North Campus in Parking is very limited in the Washington Heights area so participants are encouraged to use campus transportation or walk to the Burnham House. This is not a competitive event, and no race times will be collected or posted. “The emphasis is on fun,” Kosteva
