We expect that many of you will have questions about the University of Michigan’s response to the outcome of the election regarding Proposal 2.

On Tuesday evening, Nov. 7, you may contact U-M spokeswoman Julie Peterson for comment. She can be reached at (734) 936-5190 during the business day; after hours she can be paged at (800) 296-5155.

On Wednesday, Nov. 8, U-M President Mary Sue Coleman will be available at 11 a.m. for media interviews. The media availability will be in the Art Lounge of the Michigan Union, 530 S. State St., Ann Arbor. The Art Lounge is on the first floor, just to the left of the steps if you enter through the main doors on State Street.

Please contact Deborah Greene at (734) 763-4008 or [email protected] if you plan to attend, so we can ensure we have enough seating. We can also answer questions about parking and technical arrangements.

At 11:45 a.m., Coleman will walk to the Diag on Central Campus for an address to U-M students, faculty and staff. In the event of bad weather, her address will take place in the Ballroom on the second floor of the Michigan Union. You are welcome to accompany Coleman for her campus address and for additional photos and b-roll.

Here is an excerpt from her invitation to the campus community:

” Regardless of whether Proposal 2 is defeated or approved by voters, we have much more work to do at the University of Michigan to live up to our ideals of what a diverse learning community should be. We must recruit and retain students, staff and faculty who are diverse in the broadest sense of that term; we must encourage an inclusive campus that is respectful of differing perspectives; and we must do everything we can to support the success of every member of the University community.

” I plan to address the campus community on these issues regardless of the outcome of the election. I will discuss the University’s commitment to diversity and our action steps to move forward. I hope you will join me for this very important conversation.” ]
