School of Education celebrates 75th anniversary with lecture by author David Berliner; dinner, music and fad foods from the past

ANN ARBOR—The University of Michigan School of Education, founded in 1921, will celebrate its 75th anniversary on April 13, with a party preceded by a 5 p.m. talk by author David C. Berliner in the Schorling Auditorium of the School of Education Building.

Berliner, a professor at Arizona State University, is the co-author, with University of Missouri Prof. Bruce J. Biddle, of “The Manufactured Crisis: Myths, Fraud and the Attack on America’s Public Schools.” His talk will reflect the message of the book, which Publisher’s Weekly has termed “a probing, well- argued rebuttal of detractors of public education.”

At 6 p.m., a party buffet featuring fad foods from the past will be served. Spam is on the menu, but it is not the main entree. After dinner, brief speeches will be followed by music from the 1920s to the present.

Tickets to Berliner’s talk are free, but they are required. Tickets for the party buffet and entertainment are $22.50 each. For more information, call 763-4880. The deadline for advance registration is April 1.
