ANN ARBOR—Peggy Britt has been named assistant director/communications coordinator of the Michigan Sea Grant College Program. Michigan Sea Grant is a cooperative effort between the University of Michigan and Michigan State University that supports greater knowledge and stewardship of the Great Lakes and ocean resources. It is one of 29 Sea Grant College programs in the nation.

“My first priority is to strengthen Michigan Sea Grant?s position as a leading source of quality information and educational materials on the Great Lakes,” said Britt. “I plan to employ creative communications methods to develop educational materials that respond to real community needs.”

Prior to her appointment with Sea Grant, Britt served as associate director for the U-M?s National Consortium for Environmental Education and Training (NCEET). She also served as an adjunct faculty member at the U-M School of Natural Resources and Environment.

Britt received her master?s degree in environmental studies from Evergreen State College in Washington, then worked for the state of Washington on a variety of environmental issues, including educating recreational boaters about the impact of their activities on water quality. She also developed waste reduction programs for businesses and wrote legislation that mandated water conservation education programs.
