Exhibit Museum prepares for weekend workshops

ANN ARBOR—Kids can dive into the waters of the deep, explore prehistoric forests, blast into outer space or find clues left behind from an ancient civilization during “Explorations!,” Saturday workshops for kids ages 6-10. A series of Sunday programs also is being offered for preschoolers.

The popular two-hour educational workshops staged by the University of Michigan’s Exhibit Museum will be held on selected Saturdays starting in October. Here youngsters can indulge their curiosity about all sorts of creatures that live beneath the waves, find out all about whales, explore the world of snails and investigate the “mysterious” world of nature. Kids can become fish experts and explore live invertebrates.

Programs will be held Oct. 11 and 25 and Nov. 1 and 8. From 9:30-11:30 a.m. each day, 6- to 7-year-olds can explore “Wet-n-Wild!,” “Thar’ She Blows!,” “Snail Trails,” and Nature’s Mysteries.” From 12:30-2:30 p.m. on those same Saturdays, children 8-10 years old can take part in workshops that include “Ocean Motion,” “Walloping Whales!,” “Spineless Wonders” and “Nature’s Detectives.”

The cost for the two-hour sessions is $12 for Museum members and $15 for non-members. Pre-registration is required. Classes are limited to 20. For more information or to obtain a registration form, contact the Museum at (313) 764-0478.

“Tales for Tots” offers one-hour story/activity sessions for preschoolers from 3-4 p.m. on Sundays. The cost is 50 cents per child. No registration is necessary. Just drop into the Discovery Room on the Museum’s fourth floor.

Dates and topics are:
