EPA award for pollution prevention and energy conservation

ANN ARBOR—The University of Michigan will receive an award from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for work done under the EPA’s voluntary pollution prevention and energy conservation program, the Energy Star Buildings Partnership.

Under the program, the University is replacing existing equipment with energy-efficient lighting, heating and cooling technologies in some 12 million square feet of classroom, laboratory and office space throughout campus. The replacement program is expected to cost $10 million over a period of six year, with an expected savings of $5.7 million per year at the end of the project.

The award will be presented at 12:30 p.m. Oct. 6 on the 8th floor of the Harlan Hatcher Graduate Library. The Graduate Library is the first building to have all the replacement work completed.
