Feb. 22, 7 p.m., 140 Lorch Hall (also Feb. 24, 8 p.m., 1210 Chemistry Building), “Still Killing Us Softly: Advertising’s Image of Women,” produced and directed by Margaret Lazarus. Writer Jean Kilbourne explores the images of women, men, and children presented by modern advertising. She illustrates with examples of the use of women as sex objects. She examines the techniques used by advertisers to exploit the insecurities of consumers, particularly the concerns about aging, body image, and sexuality. Part of the U-M Women’s Studies Winter 1999 Film Series.
