Advanced research open house to be held at Engineering Lab
ANN ARBOR—The Advanced Technology Laboratories (ATL) at the University of Michigan College of Engineering will host an open house focusing on research in artificial intelligence and mobile robotics. The open house—timed to coincide with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) International Conference on Robotics and Automation in Detroit—is to be held The public is invited to view working models of a variety of devices including the GuideCane—a robotic “guide dog” for the visually impaired—which earned its inventor, Johann Borenstein, a 1998 Discover Award for Technical Innovation.
Kiosks at the open house will also feature interactive multimedia presentations of many of the projects at the Laboratories.
U-M’s Advanced Technology Laboratories are a featured tour stop for participants of the International Conference on Robotics and Automation, sponsored by the IEEE. The conference is scheduled for May 10-15 at the Marriott Hotel in Detroit’s Renaissance Center.
