New parking structure to be shared with City of Ann Arbor
ANN ARBOR—University of Michigan Regents, at their Sept. 16-17 meeting, approved proceeding with design of the Forest Avenue parking structure, in partnership with the City of Ann Arbor.
“In recent years,” said U-M Executive Vice President Robert Kasdin, “the University’s Central Campus has experienced a shortage of parking for faculty and staff. The City of Ann Arbor and the South University Merchants determined that in order to maintain and enhance the vitality of the South University business area, additional parking is required.
“In August 1998, the University agreed to assist in determining the feasibility of a shared parking structure at the corner of Forest Avenue/Willard. The feasibility team determined that:
The City Council approved the project last April.
“If the costs and terms of agreement appear satisfactory,” Kasdin said, “we will seek approval from the Regents to enter into an agreement to jointly develop and operate a Forest Avenue parking structure with the City.”
