ANN ARBOR—University of Michigan alumnus Donald J. Borut, executive director of the National League of Cities, will deliver the U-M’s Staebler Lecture at 4 p.m. Oct. 8 at the International Institute (corner of East University and South University avenues).

Free to the public, Borut’s talk will address the impact of federalism on local government and why public decision-making at the local level is “where the action is.”

Borut, who received a master’s degree in public administration from the U-M in 1965, began his career in local government working for the city of Ann Arbor. In 1971, he went to Washington to help lead the International City Management Association. He was named to his current post as head of the National League of Cities in 1990.

Presented every other year by the U-M School of Public Policy (SPP), the Staebler Lecture recognizes one of the school’s graduates who has made a significant contribution to public service. It is supported by the SPP’s Neil Staebler Fund for Political Education. For more information, call (734) 764-3490.
