ANN ARBOR— The ongoing visiting writer’s series at
the University of Michigan continues with four events in
November.

Charles Baxter, adjunct professor of English at U-M,
will appear at 5 p.m. Nov. 4 in Rackham Amphitheater to
read from his fiction. He is the author of six books of
fiction and one of poetry. Baxter’s newest novel, “The
Feast of Love,” will be released in May 2000.

On Nov. 9, Larissa Szporluk, who received her M.F.A.
in creative writing from the University, will read from her
poetry in the Rackham Amphitheater at 5 p.m.. Her book,
“Dark Sky Question,” won the 1997 Barnard New Women Poet’s
Prize. She also has selections yet to be published in the
Best American Poetry 1999, AGNI, Parnassus and The Journal.

The final events for this month will both feature
Irish poet Seamus Heaney. The 1995 Nobel Prize-winning
author will first appear in Rackham Amphitheater at 5 p.m.
Nov. 15 to give a lecture. A 6 p.m. reception is to follow
in Rackham Assembly Hall.

Heaney will then read from his poetry on Nov. 17 in
Rackham Lecture Hall at 7:30 p.m. His works include 11
collections of poetry and three books of criticism. He
teaches at Harvard University where he is the Ralph Waldo
Emerson Poet in Residence.
