ANN ARBOR—Julio Frenk, executive director of evidence and information for policy for the World Health Organization, will give the commencement address of the University of Michigan School of Public Health at 7:30 p.m., April 28, at Rackham Auditorium.

In his commencement address, Frenk will address the globalization of public health.

“In our globalized world, public health problems and solutions have broader connections, which we must all learn to understand and modify. The public health class of 2000 will operate on a global stage,” he said.

Prior to joining the World Health Organization, Frenk was the executive vice president of the Mexican Health Foundation, a private nonprofit organization, and director of its Center for Health and the Economy. He is a 1981 graduate of the U-M School of Public Health and also earned two other advanced degrees from the U-M: a master’s degree in sociology (1982) and a doctorate in philosophy in medical organization and sociology (1983).

Frenk has conducted research in the area of medical manpower, the education and employment of physicians, health policies, and on the relationship between globalization and health. He has written 27 books and monographs, 43 book chapters, 80 articles in academic journals and 102 articles in cultural magazines and newspapers.
