Regents approve tenure appointments

ANN ARBOR—Faculty appointments with tenure, approved by the University of Michigan Regents at their Sept. 21-22 meeting, included:

Thomas E. Carey, distinguished research scientist at the U-M, will be professor of otorhinolaryngology, effective Aug. 1, 2000.

Elizabeth R. Cole, a faculty member at Northeastern University, will be associate professor of women’s studies and of Afroamerican and African studies at the U-M, effective Sept. 1.

Mamadou Diouf, of the Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa, will be professor of history and of Afroamerican and African Studies at the U-M, effective Sept. 1. He was a visiting professor at the U-M in 1999 in the Department of History and Center for Afroamerican and African Studies.

Lorna Goodison, lecturer in the U-M Department of English, will be associate professor of English and of Afroamerican and African studies, effective Sept. 1.

Bruce Kleiner, a faculty member at the University of Utah, will be associate professor of mathematics at the U-M, effective Sept. 1.

Richard Lewis, a faculty member at Ohio State University, will be associate professor of psychology at the U-M, effective Sept. 1.

Catherine G. McLaughlin, U-M associate professor of health management and policy, will be professor of health management and policy, effective Sept. 1.

Christopher Monroe, of the National Institute of Standards and Technology, will be associate professor of physics at the U-M, effective Sept. 1.

Peter A. Ubel, a faculty member at the University of Pennsylvania, will be associate professor of internal medicine at the U-M, effective Aug. 1.
