Michael Waring named executive director of federal relations
ANN ARBOR—Michael A. Waring, vice president of government relations for the National Association of Broadcasters, has been appointed the University of Michigan’s executive director of federal relations and director of the University’s Washington, D.C., office. The U-M Regents approved Waring’s appointment, effective Oct. 22, at their Oct. 19-20 meeting.
Waring, who earned a B.A. degree in journalism from the U-M in 1974, brings to the post a background in government service as well as extensive experience in government relations, noted Cynthia Wilbanks, U-M vice president for government relations. He has been actively involved with the University of Michigan Club in Washington, serving as president in 1991-93, and also is treasurer of the Alumni Association‘s board of directors.
Waring will plan, develop and coordinate liaison activities between the U-M and the federal, legislative and executive branches; educational associations; professional societies; and public policy organizations, Wilbanks said. Waring also will direct the operational activities of the U-M government relations office in Washington.
