ANN ARBOR—Michigan’s academic and cultural powerhouses, along with its smaller community counterparts, are taking a leadership role in a new cultural movement with the “Imagining Michigan 2001” conference Sept. 25 at the East Lansing Marriott.
This conference is co-sponsored by Imagining America: Artists and Scholars in Public Life, established in 1999 at the White House Millennium Council and based at the University of Michigan. U-M President Lee C. Bollinger chairs the organization’s Presidents Council, a leadership body of college and university presidents and chancellors. Other sponsors include the Michigan Council for the Arts and Cultural Affairs, the Michigan Humanities Council, and Michigan State University’s recently founded Center for Great Lakes Culture.
This daylong event will feature panels highlighting four campus-community projects from different regions within the state, each focusing on an important theme.
This event is open to the public but to reserve a lunch, registration is required and can be made by calling (517) 432-1809. For more information, visit http://www.ia.umich.edu/.
