Second annual Michigan Future economic report to be released
DATE: 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 14, 2009.
EVENT: Michigan Future Inc., joined by business and university representatives, will release “Michigan’s Transition to a Knowledge-Based Economy: Second Annual Progress Report.”
Lou Glazer, president of Michigan Future, and economist Don Grimes of the University of Michigan’s Institute for Research on Labor, Employment, and the Economy, will discuss their new report detailing the impact the current national recession has had on Michigan’s transition to a knowledge-based economy.
Other speakers will include:
? Thomas Zurbuchen, director of U-M’s Center for Entrepreneurship, who will talk about U-M programs encouraging students to start their own businesses in Michigan.
? Eric Stief, director of venture development at Wayne State University, who will discuss Wayne State’s work in developing businesses, including E2challenge, a student competition giving student groups an opportunity to launch a startup company at WSU’s TechTown this summer.

Michigan’s University Research Corridor (URC) is hosting the event with U-M, WSU and the Detroit Regional Chamber. The URC and Michigan State University will host a similar event April 15 at the state Capitol in Lansing.
