Bernstein Symposium features former EPA chiefs

EVENT: The 2009 Bernstein Symposium, “Air Toxics: Transcending Boundaries—Better Science for Better Health,” will focus on air pollution research and policy. Emerging air toxics challenges will be covered in sessions on the impact of new fuels, new engine and hybrid technology, linking exposures to health effects, and trans-border exposure issues.
The event features several past EPA officials, including Stephen Johnson, the first scientist and career federal employee to be appointed administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. His career with the federal government spans 28 years.
Other speakers include:
? Ronald Williams, project manager and team leader of the Air Toxics Human Exposure Measurements with the US EPA’s National Exposure Research Laboratory.
? Amanda Wheeler, research scientist with the Exposure Assessment Section in the Healthy Environments and Consumer Safety Branch at Health Canada.
? Rogene F. Henderson, senior scientist emeritus at the Lovelace Respiratory Research Institute, also served as chair of the EPA Clean Air Science Advisory Committee during the recent ozone and fine particle National Ambient Air Quality Standards scientific review process.
Panel sessions will provide opportunities for participants and speakers to discuss the scientific evidence and policy implications.
