EVENT: University of Michigan students return to campus starting Sept. 1. Before classes officially start Sept. 8, some of them will help several community groups. New students at the School of Social Work (SSW) will visit at least 15 locations in Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti and Metro Detroit area for its annual Community Service Day.

The event?now in its third year?allows these students to bond with each other, while helping socially and economically disadvantaged populations in different projects. More than 250 students will meet at 8 a.m. at SSW, where buses will transport them to their respective destinations.

Some of their activities will include helping seniors with household tasks, stocking pantries with food items, painting, planting flowers and bushes and cleaning rooms.
