U-M carbon symposium features Duke Energy CEO James Rogers

EVENT: The Ross Energy Club’s 2nd annual Carbon Symposium will provide educational and professional insight into the emerging importance of carbon in our economy.

James E. Rogers, chairman, president and CEO of Duke Energy Corp., will deliver the keynote address at 9:30 a.m. He also will hold a media availability session at 10:20 a.m.

In addition, the program will feature three panels of national experts who will address the carbon offset value chain, from project developers and originators to end consumers. A fourth panel will discuss the role of fossil fuels as the United States and the world shift to a cleaner energy economy.

Issues to be discussed include:

 

  • How the business community assigns value to carbon.
  • What current carbon trading schemes are in use and how they differ.
  • How offsets fit into existing and emerging cap-and-trade schemes.
  • The role public policy plays in the establishment of a fair market.
  • What business leaders need to know to stay relevant.
  • How young professionals can get involved in emerging carbon markets.
