EVENT: Zainab Salbi, founder and CEO of Women for Women International, will deliver the 40th annual William K. McInally Memorial Lecture. Her talk, titled “The Other Side of War,” is free to the public.

Salbi’s organization, which she and her husband founded in 1993, helps women survivors of war rebuild their lives and contribute to the political and economic health of their societies. Her organization has reached 70,000 women, affecting 5.3 million family and community members, and received the 2006 Conrad N. Hilton Humanitarian Prize, the world?s largest humanitarian award.

Salbi, a survivor of war in Iraq, is author of “The Other Side of War: Women?s Stories of Survival and Hope” and “Between Two Worlds: Escape from Tyranny: Growing Up in the Shadow of Saddam.” She has been featured several times on the Oprah Winfrey Show and in many other national and international media outlets. Time magazine named her “Innovator of the Month” in 2005 for her pioneering work as a philanthropist.

The McInally Lecture began in 1966 in memory of William K. McInally, who served on the University of Michigan Board of Regents from 1960 until 1964. Past speakers include Madeleine Albright, Andrew Young, Martha Seger, F. Lee Bailey, C.K. Prahalad and Richard Tedlow.
