EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT
DATE: Nov. 28, 2015–Jan. 3, 2016; 10 a.m.–4:30 p.m. daily, until 8 p.m. on Wednesdays
EVENT: “Forest & Tree—A Multitude of Gifts”
Forests and the trees that live within them inhabit our imaginations as timeless places of mystery, beauty and undiscovered calm. This winter at the U-M Matthaei Botanical Gardens, nearly 70 artists will display works inspired by the forest, the trees, or both. Multiple media are featured—from a life-size bronze tree trunk created by U-M Stamps School Professor Michael Rodemer, to abstract paintings and photographs depicting the slow collision of time and the forces of nature in their struggle to survive. U-M students, staff and members of the local community contributed to the exhibition.
“Forest & Tree” is part of the winter conservatory display “The Gift of Nature: Ten Plants that Changed the World.” The display, which features plants that have benefited humans throughout history, also includes a seasonal flower display in the conservatory and evergreen trees with decorations related to the Gift of Nature theme.
