Award-winner joins College of Architecture and Urban Planning
ANN ARBOR— Enrique Norten will serve as the Emil Lorch Professor of Architecture and Urban Planning at the University of Michigan’s College of Architecture and Urban Planning, beginning in January.
A native of Mexico City, Norten received an undergraduate degree in architecture from the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico and a master’s degree in architecture from Cornell University. Norten is the recipient of numerous awards in highly competitive design programs and has served as a juror for prestigious architecture awards committees throughout the United States.
” Norten will bring to the College distinguished professional experience and leadership, an impressive record of international design awards, and the abilities of a committed and effective teacher,” said Robert Beckley, dean of the College. Norten also will be professor of architecture, with tenure.
As the founder of Arquitectura Magazine, published in Mexico City, Norten continues to serve as an editorial board participant. Under his direction, the magazine became a significant journal for both Mexican architects and the international architectural community.
Before coming to U-M, Norten had appointments at Cornell, Rice and Columbia universities. He has served as the Elliot Noyes Visiting Professor at the Harvard Graduate School of Design and the O’Neil-Ford Chair in Architecture at the University of Texas-Austin.
