CEW Honors 35 Women Scholars

ANN ARBOR—The University of Michigan Center for the Education of Women (CEW) awarded 35 scholarships in their 29th CEW Scholarship Award Program, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the admission of women to U-M.

The CEW Scholarship Award Program honors returning women students whose education has been interrupted. Scholarships are awarded based on goals, commitment, academic record and promise, strength of motivation, and need.

Award winners are:

ANN ARBOR—Julie Eastin, pursuing a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and Women’s Studies, received a $2,000 Jane Gibson Likert Scholarship; Zilia C. Estrada, pursuing an M.A. in the School of Information, received a $3,000 AAUW Scholarship; Susan A. French, pursuing a B.M.A in the School of Music, violin performance, received a $2,500 Margaret Dow Towsley Scholarship; Margo A. Gillman, pursuing an MA in Public Health, received a $2,500 Margaret Dow Towsley Scholarship;

Heather A. Glock, pursuing an M.S. in natural resources and environment, received a $3,000 Margaret Dow Towsley Scholarship; Sally Horvath, pursuing an M.S.I. in the School of Information, received a $2,000 Margaret Dow Towsley Scholarship; Dana E. Jones, pursuing a Ph.D. in public health, received a $3,500 Margaret Dow Towsley Scholarship; Mari Kan, pursuing an M.A. in public policy and applied economics, received a $3,000 Margaret Dow Towsley Scholarship; Rose M. Regalado, pursuing an M.S.W. in social work, received a $4,000 Margaret Dow Towsley Scholarship; Barbara J. Smith, pursuing a Ph.D. in epidemology, received a $1,500 Margaret Dow Towsley Scholarship; Margaret Wheeler, pursuing a Ph.D. in comparative literature, received a $1,500 Margaret Dow Towsley Scholarship; Erin Wilson Burns, pursuing an M.B.A. in business, received a $2,000 Helen Huff Shell Scholarship; Ana Ostermann, pursuing a Ph.D. in linguistics, received a $2,000 Mary Malcomson Raphael Fellowship; Lucille Schmidt, pursuing a Ph.D. in economics, received a $10,000 Mary Malcomson Raphael Fellowship; Kathleen McShane, pursuing a Ph.D. in philosophy, received a $8,000 Mary Malcomson Raphael Fellowship.

CHESTERFIELD—Lynda S. Flood, pursuing a J.D. in law, received a $5,000 Margaret Dow Towsley Scholarship. DEARBORN—Grace El-Tawil, pursuing a B.B.A. in management information systems, received a $1,500 Margaret Dow Towsley Scholarship; Yasmin Mohamed, pursuing an A.B. in history, received a $4,000 Gail Allen Scholarship. DETROIT—Jennifer A. Exline, pursuing a B.S. in chemical engineering, received a $10,000 Wyman Scholarship. DEXTER—Katherine King, pursuing an M.A. in natural resources and environment, received a $1,000 Conger Scholarship.

FERNDALE—Michele Worden, pursuing an M.B.A. in business, received a $1,500 Margaret Dow Towsley Scholarship. GOODRICH—Deborah Compeau, pursuing an M.A. in health care, received a $1,000 Margaret Dow Towsley Scholarship. LIVONIA—Mary Danko Schraffenberger, pursuing a B.F.A. in graphic design, received a $6,500 Dobson Scholarship; Lena Rhea Nichols, pursuing a B.A. in math/statistics, received a Margaret Dow Towsley Scholarship. MILFORD—Constance Reeves, pursuing a B.S. in mathematics, received a $2,500 Margaret Dow Towsley Scholarship.

NOVI—Cindi Russette, pursuing a B.A. in elementary education, received a $12,000 Milman Scholarship. RIVERVIEW—Karen Johnson, pursuing a B.A. in elementary education, received a $4,500 Conger Scholarship. SALINE—Tracy Schroepfer, pursuing a Ph.D. in social work and sociology, received a $4,000 Conger Scholarship. SWARTZ CREEK—Patricia Bingham, pursuing a teaching degree in secondary education, received a $1,000 Margaret Dow Towsley Scholarship. TROY—Susan Babst, pursuing a B.S. in clinical/community psychology, received a $1,000 Margaret Dow Towsley Scholarship. WYOMING—Yifan Ji, pursuing an M.A. in information, received a $4,000 Margaret Dow Towsley Scholarship. YPSILANTI—Julia R. Plevnia, pursuing a D.D.S. in dental surgery, received a $3,000 Margaret Dow Towsley Scholarship.
