ANN ARBOR—Sara Rosenbaum, a nationally known expert on health care financing and managed care, maternal and child health, and health care law for the poor, will speak on “Child Health Policy and the Next American Presidency” in a free public lecture at 3 p.m. Oct. 17 at the University of Michigan School of Education’s Schorling Auditorium.

Her talk is featured as this year’s Fedele F. and Iris M. Fauri Memorial Lecture on Child Welfare and the Susan B. Meister Child Health Policy Lecture, sponsored by the U-M School of Social Work and the School of Nursing, respectively.

Rosenbaum, director of the Center for Health Services Research and Policy at George Washington University’s School of Public Health and Health Services, has worked on the White House Domestic Policy Council and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, where she directed the legislative drafting of the Health Security Act for the President.

She also has served on the staff of the Children’s Defense Fund and on policy advisory boards for the U.S. congressional Office of Technology Assessment, the U.S. Public Health Service and the Health Care Financing Administration. Since 1992, she has been a public member of the American Board of Pediatrics.

The Fauri Lecture is named in memory of Fedele Fauri, former U-M vice president and the first dean of social work, and his wife, Iris. Fedele Fauri held various state and federal government positions in social welfare, including serving as the first director of the Michigan Department of Social Services and as Social Security adviser to President John F. Kennedy and to the U.S. Congress.

The Meister Child Health Initiative recognizes Susan Meister, an alumna of the U-M School of Nursing’s doctoral program. It is intended to promote interdisciplinary understanding of child health policy issues, advance links between research and policies, and stimulate new research to inform policies that affect the health of children.
