ANN ARBOR—Vehicle drivers and passengers must have their seatbelts fastened when traveling on streets, roads, and highways in the state of Michigan. Compliance with this law saves lives, especially those of children. Unbuckled children can easily be tossed around and out of vehicles during accidents.
The University of Michigan Department of Public Safety (DPS) will be joining hundreds of law enforcement agencies throughout the state in supporting the Office of Highway Safety Planning‘s Click It or Ticket campaign. From May 21 through May 28, DPS officers and other agencies will be conducting increased enforcement of the safety belt law by declaring zero tolerance for drivers who fail to buckle up children.
