ANN ARBOR—Connita Craft has been named coordinator, Outreach and Summer Programs for the Minority Engineering Program Office (MEPO) at the University of Michigan College of Engineering.

In her new position, Craft will be responsible for overseeing program development, evaluation, and assessment and will participate in the recruitment and retention of underrepresented minority students. Additionally, she will serve as liaison between the community, schools, and business and the University as it relates to pre-college engineering efforts.

“Connita brings a broad range of education and communication management experience to our office. We’re fortunate to have someone with her background and skills on our staff,” said Derrick Scott, director of MEPO.

Craft has been an instructor for the MEPO Summer Engineering Academy and a teacher in the Detroit public schools system. She has served as a legal researcher for various companies and law firms and has held communications, public relations, and marketing positions at the Phoenix Group, Inc., UAW Solidarity House, and the UAW-Ford National Education Development and Training Center. Most recently, Craft served as vice president of Facilitation for a Detroit-based educational consulting firm, where she developed and assessed curricula for a number of youth education programs.

A native of Detroit, Craft holds a B.A. degree in English from Kalamazoo College and a J.D. from Wayne State University Law School. Craft is presently completing requirements for a master’s degree in teaching at Marygrove College.
