DC briefing on consumer confidence, older Americans

WASHINGTON, DC—Representatives of the news media are invited to attend a University of Michigan briefing on Wednesday (Sept. 16) in Room HC-8 on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC.

The briefing is part of a continuing celebration of the 60th Anniversary of the U-M Institute for Social Research, the world’s largest academic social research and survey organization and a national resource for social science in the public interest.

Breakfast begins at 8 a.m. and the briefing starts at 8:30 a.m. with remarks by Congressman John Dingell (D-Michigan).

U-M economist Richard Curtin, director of the Reuters/University of Michigan Surveys of Consumers, will discuss “Consumer Confidence: Will Consumers Lead or Lag the Recovery.”

U-M economist David Weir, director of the ISR Health and Retirement Study, will discuss “Older Americans: How They are Weathering the Downturn.”
