Department of Public Safety begins holiday food drive
ANN ARBOR—The University of Michigan Department of Public Safety‘s community oriented policing (COP) officers began their annual holiday food drive Wednesday (Nov. 19) to help Ann Arbor families in need.
“There are many people in this area who are struggling to get by,” said Officer Dave Dupuis. “As the holidays approach, we hope to fill the cupboards of people in need and to show our commitment to the Ann Arbor community.”
Canned and boxed food is being collected in the COP offices at 525 Church St., Mason Hall (Room G419) and Pierpont Commons between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., Monday through Friday, until Dec. 15.
Donations also will be accepted at the main Department of Public Safety office at 1239 Kipke Drive between 7:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. Food collected by DPS will be distributed by Food Gatherers to families the week before Christmas. Food Gatherers, a not-for-profit food rescue program, serves more than 2,000 meals a day to members of Washtenaw County.
Items requested include canned soups, beef stew, spaghetti, breakfast cereals, oatmeal, baby food/formula, canned meats, chili, tuna, rice, beans, pasta and powdered milk and cheese.
