DATE: 2 p.m.? 3:30 p.m. Jan. 20, 2010.

EVENT: Robert Bobb, emergency financial manager for the Detroit Public Schools, will deliver a presentation on effecting change in large organizations. The presentation, sponsored by the University of Michigan Institute for Social Research is in honor of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

?Mr. Bobb?s work in changing the operation and culture of the DPS is a perfect example of the theme of this year?s U-M MLK events: ?I am, was, and always will be a catalyst for change,?? said James Jackson, ISR director. ?We are looking forward to learning about the approaches to organizational change that Mr. Bobb believes are most effective, and to discussing ways that ISR may help to assess changes in the DPS as they occur.?

Bobb is the former city administrator and deputy mayor of Washington, D.C., and served as the District of Columbia?s homeland security adviser. He has served as city manager of Oakland, California; Richmond, Virginia; Santa Ana, California; and Kalamazoo, Mich. He frequently lectures on urban issues and problems, and is president and CEO of the LAPA Group, LLC, a private/public sector consulting firm.

After the presentation, ISR will host a reception in the Rackham Lobby area at 3:30-4:30 p.m. Both events are open to the public.

PLACE: Rackham Amphitheater, 915 E. Washington St., Ann Arbor.
