Dinkeloo and Eames architecture lectures in April
ANN ARBOR—Mack Scogin and Merrill Elam will present the Charles and Ray Eames Lecture at the University of Michigan College of Architecture and Urban Planning at 6 p.m. April 16 in Chrysler Auditorium on U-M’s North Campus.
The Atlanta architects, whose designs include educational buildings, public libraries and residential projects, will present “Work.” The design team, winner of five national AIA Awards, have been published internationally. Their presentation at U-M is sponsored by Herman Miller Inc. of Zeeland, Mich., manufacturer of Eames furniture designs for almost 50 years.
On April 19, Phoenix architect Will Bruder will present the John Dinkeloo Memorial Lecture at 6 p.m. at Chrysler Auditorium
Bruder, an artist who has worked from a desert studio in New Mexico for the past 25 years, counts among his recent project the Gerald L. Cafesjian Pavilion of the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art where he has transformed an old movie theater into a work of art and a place where works of art can be displayed.
Over the years, Bruder’s 400 plus commissions have celebrated the craft of building in ways not typical in contemporary architecture today. His architecture has been widely presented in books and periodicals in the United States, Europe and Japan and has received numerous awards. His greatest professional achievement has been the Phoenix Central Library, an architectural touchstone of international acclaim redefining that region’s architectural character.
