Discussion: Jobs, science and the Great Lakes

EVENT: The Role of the Great Lakes in Michigan’s Economic Future, a discussion about about how water quality, sustainability, monitoring and environmental outreach play a critical role in Michigan’s economic future. Participants include leading scientists and policy experts from the University of Michigan’s Graham Environmental Sustainability Institute, Michigan Sea Grant, NOAA’s Cooperative Institute of Limnology and Ecosystem Research, and the U-M Institute for Research on Labor, Employment and the Economy.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to talk about how water quality, sustainability, monitoring and environmental outreach play a critical role in Michigan’s economic future,” said Cynthia Wilbanks, U-M’s vice president for government relations.

The event is open to the general public and is a Wolverine Caucus presentation.

SPEAKERS:

? John Austin, director of the Great Lakes Economic Initiative at the Brookings Institution and a resident scholar at the U-M Institute for Research on Labor, Employment and the Economy.

? Jim Diana, director of Michigan Sea Grant and professor in the U-M School of Natural Resources and Environment.

? Allen Burton, director of NOAA’s Cooperative Institute for Limnology and Ecosystems Research (CILER) and a professor in the U-M School of Natural Resources and Environment.

? Don Scavia, director of U-M’s Graham Environmental Sustainability Institute, Graham Family Professor of Environmental Sustainability, and Special Counsel to the U-M President on Sustainability.
