DATE: 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, 2016

PLACE: U-M School of Nursing, 426 N. Ingalls St., Ann Arbor

EVENT: A special screening of “When Elephants Fight,” a documentary that explores the connection between conflict and resource extraction in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Narrated by Robin Wright of “House of Cards” fame, the 50-minute documentary delves into the legacy of the war that ravaged Congo from 1998 to 2002, killing more than 5 million people—the world’s deadliest conflict since World War II.

Dr. Denis Mukwege, human rights activist and winner of 2010 Wallenberg medal, and filmmaker Michael Ramsdell will be present for a Q&A after the screening.

The University of Michigan School of Nursing has a robust partnership with Mukwege’s Panzi Hospital and Foundation. Together, Mukwege and U-M researchers are developing training and research programs at Panzi to care for thousands of women victimized by the war’s use of mass rape as a weapon.
