ANN ARBOR—Lieutenant Rene “Benny” Chenevert of the University of Michigan Department of Public Safety (DPS) recently graduated from the FBI National Academy Program at Quantico, Va. Chenevert coordinates the Community Oriented Police program for DPS.

Two hundred sixty-four law enforcement officers graduated from the 204th Session of the National Academy, including men and women from all 50 states, 23 countries, three military organizations and two federal civilian agencies. Graduates completed 10 weeks of advanced legal, investigative, management, and fitness training. FBI Director Louis J. Freeh was the principal speaker at the graduation ceremony. Since its inception in 1935, a total of 34,241 people have graduated from the National Academy, which has become internationally known for its academic excellence.

Chenevert has worked with DPS for 10 years. A resident of Detroit, Chenevert is also an alumnus of the Detroit Police Academy and earned a master of science degree from the University of Detroit and a bachelor of arts degree from Mercy College of Detroit.

The U-M DPS is a full-service police agency providing police and safety services to the U-M Ann Arbor campus.
