ANN ARBOR—The University of Michigan’s Department of Environmental and Industrial Health in the School of Public Health has been named a World Health Organization Collaborating Centre in Occupational Health.

U-M faculty active in international public health research for the Centre include Prof. Steven P. Levine and department chair Khalil H. Mancy, who are currently developing projects in East Asia and the Middle East, respectively. Other project sites include Indonesia and Chile, headed by David H. Garabrant and Milagros S. Simmons, respectively.

” This is a great honor,” said Levine, Centre director. Mancy believes that the designation has been a ” response to longstanding commitment and activity in the field of international public health.”

Later this year, Levine will be visiting Korea and China to develop policy and management projects. Garabrant will be continuing his activities in Indonesia, and Mancy will be working on a joint project with Israel and Palestine.
