Expert panel: Michigan’s renewable energy ballot proposal

EVENT: Michigan voters must decide in November whether to approve a ballot proposal that would increase the level of renewable energy in use to 25 percent by 2025. Three experts will discuss the ramifications of the proposal and the impact similar standards have had in other states.

The panelists are:

Eric Lupher is director of local affairs for the Citizens Research Council of Michigan. Eric joined the council in 1987 and has done research on different state and local government policy issues. He will discuss a new report from the Citizens Research Council that explores the issue.

Sanya Carley is an assistant professor at the School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University. Her research and teaching activities focus on energy policy including evaluating the effectiveness of state energy policies and regulatory efforts to alter electricity generation.

Thomas Lyon holds the Dow Chair of Sustainable Science, Technology and Commerce at the University of Michigan. He is a leader in using economic analysis to understand corporate environmental strategy and how it is shaped by government regulations, nongovernmental organizations and consumer demands.
