EVENT: Ben Bernanke, chairman of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, will speak at the University of Michigan as part of the “Policy Talks @ the Ford School” lecture series, which is free to the public.

Bernanke, who was appointed to a 14-year term on the board and his first four-year term as chairman in 2006, is currently serving a second term as chair. He also chairs the Federal Open Market Committee, the Fed’s principal monetary policymaking body.

He originally served on the Board of Governors from 2002 to 2005 before his appointment as chair of the President’s Council of Economic Advisers in 2005-06.

He also has served the Fed in other roles over the past 25 years, including as a visiting scholar at the Federal Reserve Banks of Philadelphia (1987-89), Boston (1989-90) and New York (1990-91, 1994-96), and as a member of the Academic Advisory Panel at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York (1990-2002).

Bernanke was a professor of economics and public affairs at Princeton University from 1985 to 2002 after teaching at Stanford University for six years. He has a bachelor’s degree from Harvard University and earned his doctorate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
