Grand opening ceremony: Renovated Stockwell Hall at U-M
DATE: 3 -5 p.m. Sept. 9, 2009.
EVENT: President Mary Sue Coleman and other representatives of the University of Michigan will officially open the renewed Stockwell Hall student residence. Tours of the facilities and refreshments will be offered to students and guests. Remarks and ribbon-cutting will begin at 3 p.m.
Completed in 1940, Stockwell Hall reopens with new amenities and safety features including fire suppression system, upgraded plumbing, heating and electrical, air-conditioning, wireless Internet access, and remodeled bathrooms. The renovation includes a dynamic multi-level glass covered rotunda area for community and neighborhood interaction, a new Community Learning Center, music practice rooms, lounges for recreation, study and events.
Upper class students reside in Stockwell Hall, where the coeducational community focus is on an evolving, student-driven sophomore year experience.
The project is a major accomplishment in the University’s Residential Life Initiatives to revitalize and expand the student living experience on campus.
