Gravitational waves expert Kip Thorne to give annual U-M physics lecture
EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT
DATE: 4-5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2017
EVENT: 2017 Ta-You Wu Lecture in Physics: “Exploring the Universe with Gravitational Waves: From the Big Bang to Black Holes with Kip Thorne”
Thorne, the Feynman Professor of Theoretical Physics, Emeritus at Caltech, is an expert on black holes and gravitational waves. He will discuss the 50-year effort that led to the discovery of gravitational waves from colliding black holes, which confirmed one of Albert Einstein’s predictions. His talk is free to the public.
Thorne, who was the science adviser for the film “Interstellar,” also will discuss the rich explorations that lie ahead thanks to this momentous discovery.
