Head of National Museum of African American History and Culture to speak at U-M

EVENT: “The Challenge of Building a National Museum”
Lonnie Bunch, founding director of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture, will discuss the history and struggle to create the museum, which is slated to open in 2016 on a five-acre tract adjacent to the Washington Monument.
He will examine a variety of challenges, including building on the National Mall, conceptual frameworks, public expectations and contextual terrain of race, as well as provide an update of the current status and future projections for the museum.
