Health, race and equity in Washtenaw County neighborhoods

EVENT: “People, Power, Place: Health, Race & Equity in Our Neighborhoods” is a research-based dramatization that explores health equity in Washtenaw County presenting public health facts, such as:

  • Washtenaw County has one of the greatest income inequality levels in the state of Michigan.
  • High school dropout rates in Ypsilanti and Willow Run are higher than those of other states in the nation.
  • African-American infants in Washtenaw County are twice as likely as whites to be born early and underweight. They are also three times more likely to die before their first birthday.

The drama features the work of Adreanne Waller, an epidemiologist for the Washtenaw County Public Health Department and an alumna of the University of Michigan School of Public Health, and the U-M Educational Theatre Company.
