Hundreds of U-M students will help beautify Detroit

EVENT: Detroit Partnership Day 2014
At the 15th annual Detroit Partnership Day, about 1,400 University of Michigan students and Detroit volunteers will work at 19 different sites throughout the city. Activities include urban gardening, mural painting, cleanup and demolition projects, and more.
The day of service concludes with a large-scale reflection at Belle Isle Park. Speakers include former Michigan football coach Lloyd Carr and Detroit City Councilwoman Raquel Castañeda-López.
Examples of this year’s projects:
- About 50 volunteers will be boarding up houses with Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries.
- As many as 250 volunteers will help with general community cleanup in the Brightmoor community with Neighbors Building Brightmoor.
PLACE: Various sites throughout the city, such as the Belle Isle Conservancy, Heidelberg Project, Public Art Workz, Historic Fort Wayne Coalition and Artist Village.
