International Day of Peace: Japanese activist will discuss experiences of women in Okinawa

EVENT: A lecture by Kozue Akibayashi, president of the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom, on “A gender perspective on peace and security: The experiences of women in Okinawa.”
Akibayashi is a feminist researcher and activist, and has worked on issues of gender and peace. She is a professor at the Doshisha University Graduate School of Global Studies in Kyoto, Japan.
Akibayashi was a delegate to Women Cross DMZ, an international coalition of women calling for peace in Korea. She has long protested U.S. and Japanese militarization in Okinawa.
Her free, public lecture celebrates the International Day of Peace Sept. 21.
