EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT

DATE: 6-8:30 p.m. Nov. 11, 2014

EVENT: The University of Michigan School of Public Health and School of Music, Theatre & Dance present a fast-paced, musical multimedia experience that explores 400 years of American history.

Vincent York’s Jazzistry takes the audience on a musical tour that transverses time and space, turning auditoriums into musical time machines. The professional touring show has been providing educational presentations in K-12 schools throughout Southeast Michigan since 1994, but event organizers say it is fun for the whole family.

Jazzistry creates a deeper understanding of American musical roots and cultural traditions, and expands an appreciation of America as a multicultural society.

The program explores the evolution of American music leading up to today’s pop, rock, rap and hip-hop.

The professional six-piece Jazzistry Band, featuring Michigan artists, is the centerpiece of the program. In addition, the U-M event includes performances by the U-M Honors Jazz Combo.

REGISTRATION: The event is free but registration is required at http://tinyurl.com/sph-jazz.

PLACE: Mendelssohn Theatre, Michigan League, 911 N. University Ave., Ann Arbor. Reception to follow the performance at the Alumni Association, Founder’s Room.

SPONSORS: School of Public Health’s Office of Academic Affairs-Student Life; School of Music, Theatre & Dance; Office of the Vice Provost for Equity, Inclusion and Academic Affairs; U-M Alumni Association; Office of Academic Multicultural Initiatives; Rackham Graduate School
